Free social networks face many issues when it comes to the content. Among many is a tendency for the ‘too good to be true’ rumors to start, namely the rumor that a presently free service is about to start charging it’s users for access. While many may have flirted with the idea, Twitter has found a way to charge a ‘fee’ to a smaller degree, and it’s among the first company to do this. The company has faced issues when it had come to rising funds for itself, and had made some attempts at finding sources of revenue. It’s plan now has many worried over the use of their own content, and the potential of Twitter’s new pay setup.
…Twitter would start charging companies that sell advertising around Twitter content, "where that Twitter content is the basis (in whole or in part) for the advertising sale". It means that companies such as Ad.ly, a US firm that sells ads in to Twitter streams, and Tweetup may have to look elsewhere for this revenue. Costolo said such companies could continue to sell analytics and other services based around Twitter.

The plan involved website owners who advertise on twitter, or use user tweets as a focus of their own site. Twitter is said to be in the stages of ‘charging’ a website based on any advertising fees it may make off the content. Among other plans is the banning of any sponsored tweets, which many company’s pay Twitter users to post on their accounts. Many are worried about favorite non-Twitter websites that focus on add-ons for the popular website. While this won’t effect normal content, and Twitter assures it’s users they still own the rights to what they post, many companies may potentially face issues with this new set-up.
